Background

Enable East was fully established in 2010. The organisation builds on the legacy of the Eastern Development Centre which functioned first as part of the Department of Health and then NHS East of England from 2002 until 2010 when it closed due to cuts in public sector funding.

The Eastern Development Centre was initially one of eight regional development centres of the National Institute for Mental Health in England (NIMHE) from 2002 to 2005, then part of the Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP) from 2005 to 2008. From 2008 onwards the remit of the EDC extended to supporting NHS East of England, the Department of Health, the Big Lottery Fund and other agencies to deliver more than 200 projects and programmes across health and social care.

The Enable East team today are well positioned to ensure that the legacy and learning from these predecessor organisations is still available to the East of England.
